What a great turnout. Lots of members, new faces and good discussions. That said, there was also a lot of changes.
- Rich Hamilton was voted in as secretary/treasurer. Mike Chin was voted in as President
- There will not be a dues increase. They will remain the same as last year.
- We amended the forward tee box rule. Now anyone over 60, whose age and handicap index equal 80 or higher, they can play from the Hybird tee box. Anyone over 70, whose age and handicap index equal 85 or higher, can now play the gold tee boxes. Once you have declared your tee box at the beginning of the season it will not change for the remainder of this season.
- We have removed the Quota tournament format.
- We will now have a spring member/guest. This tournament will be called The Glen Shrock Invitational. This tournament will be as follows: 2 man, 1 best ball. You can play member/member or bring a guest and play member/guest. This is not a prepaid event. This tournament will cost $100 per team ($50 per person). The guest must have an established handicap. Any guest will be given 80% of their handicap. Members will get their full handicap. After 18 holes, the top 1/3 (and ties) of teams will move on to the West course and play 9 more. Any guest who plays and chooses to join the men's club will have their dues reduced by their $50 entry fee. If a guest wins the tournament, they will be given a free mens club membership for the remainder of 2025. We will also offer paramutual betting during this tournament.
- The Hoby Cat will be moved to the spring and will now be a calcutta. Remains a 2 day singles event (first day at Forest Park, second day at Fox Prairie). We will auction players off on Thursday prior to the event. Same as the Tubby McDonald, just Park and Fox instead of 2 rounds at Fox.
- The Dillon teams will remain ABCD, but the best A, will get the worst B, best C and worst D. And so on for the remaining teams. The teams will be made prior to reducing handicap strokes to the 1/2 handicap (capped at 11 shots).
- With the removal of the Quota, we will now only have 9 "pre-paid events". But those 9 events will have an increased prize pot.
- We are going to add a few more 9 hole, fun, Friday night events. I will email everyone a few weeks in advance to let you know when and what format we're going to do.
- Todd Giganti's "Ironman" 27 hole tournament that runs at the same time as the seniors championship, will now allow the seniors to use their score and play an additional 9 holes to record an Ironman score and compete in both tournaments at the same time.
- We will start penalizing slow play. You will be sent a warning on your golf cart screen or a verbal warning from the ranger. If you catch back up to the pace of play, the penalty will be removed. Your pace of play will be based on the golf courses pace. Gary will know who is out of position and who is causing it. If you're in a group behind the offenders, you will not be penalized unless you're not keeping up with that group. Having said that, you will be required to police yourself and make sure your playing partners are playing with the correct pace. That means, hit when it's your turn. 3 minutes max for looking for lost balls. etc. There are tons of things our members can be doing to play at a faster pace. If you're not sure what that is, see me or Gary. The days of 5 1/2 to 6 hour rounds are no longer.
- We finished with a few words from Floyd Bennett. Please keep his daughter in your thoughts and prayers.
Having said all this above. Please give us a little time to update the schedule online. Chip will update Foxmensclub.com and I'll update the Bluegolf tournament site. I will also send out my usual upcoming tournament reminder emails. First event is the 9 hole Beat the Pro on April 11th and the Team Scramble on April 13th. Dust off your sticks and start knocking off that rust. It's a month away. It's going to be a great season!
Thank you,
Rich
